Making Neighbourhood Watch happen in Brighton Hill

On Monday 17th November 2008 at 7.00pm, there was a meeting to discuss the setting up of Neighbourhood Watch schemes in the Brighton Hill North area.  The meeting was held in the main hall at the Brighton Hill School and was hosted by PC Paul Green the District Community Safety Coordinator from the Community Safety Team at Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council.

There were around 70 people at the meeting including a substantial number of residents from various sections of Britten Road.  Residents from many of the roads that come off Sullivan Road were also present. Assisting PC Green to answer questions were representatives from the supporting agencies such as the Police Beat Officer, Community Wardens, Accredited Community Safety Officers and Police Community Support Officers.

The presentation by PC Green included information on the benefits from joining a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and the help available from the local police and other agencies to get schemes started.

Further information on the results of this meeting will be published here in due course.

Why you should get to know your neighbours ...

Here is an experience that is more than annoying.

One of the guys I work with went to a conference for a week then down to Aus and back via a meeting or two in Hong Kong.

His neighbour wondered why they had not seen him for a while then got worried and called the police. Who (yes) broke in and left a very nice note telling him he was not dead (yet).

Moral: Be kind to your neighbours and tell them you're away, or fork out £650 for a new door.
