How can we reconcile boosting profits with stewardship of our planet? Can we resolve the tension between these very different objectives. Journalist and broadcaster Jon Snow will guest chair a panel of experts in economics, policy and climate science to examine these important questions.
Through transforming the energy sector to rethinking the way we build houses, streets and entire cities, a range of reforms—such as a green new deal—have the potential to change the way we live, for the better.
But what are the political and economic obstacles that lie between reconciling capitalism and sustainable development? And what is the science that underpins it all? This virtual panel discussion will seek the answers.
Speakers include:
Professor Joanna Haigh FRS: Climate scientist and Co-Director of the Grantham Institute, Imperial College 2014-2019.
Professor Robert Pollin: Co-Director of the Political Economy Research Institute, UMass Amherst, co-author of Climate Crisis and the Global Green New Deal.
Jon Snow (Chair): Journalist and television presenter, the longest-running presenter of Channel 4 News.
