Harwell Science Campus Open Day + Transport

Saturday 11 Jul 2015
08:55 to 17:00
Harwell Science and Innovation Campus Electron Building, Fermi Avenue, OX11 0QR , Didcot
OX11 0QR       (Map)
England

We have received some information recently from the Thames Valley Branch of the British Science Association (TVBSA) that we think Active Hampshire and Basingstoke Cafe Sci science and technology enthusiasts might be interested in.

This July, the Harwell campus, including the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and partners, will be opening its doors to the public and schools. This unique event will enable visitors to access all areas and learn about the UK’s involvement in space explorations, exciting experiments with powerful X-rays and neutrons, supercomputing and much more.

Organisations across the campus are taking part in the open days, which will see 1,500 schoolchildren and 10,000 members of the public visit the site in Oxfordshire, which contains some of the UK’s largest and most advanced scientific facilities.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to see behind the scenes of cutting-edge science and discovery at the UK’s largest science campus. A diverse range of facilities will be open, allowing you to plan your own visit and really explore the site. Whether you’re fascinated by lasers, space, medical research, or particle physics, there’s something for all the family.

OPENING TIMES AND REGISTERING INTEREST ...
The public day will be held on Saturday 11 July, with first entry at 9:30 and final entry at 16:00 (closing at 17:30). You can register your interest and book on-line to receive updates about this event from Harwell. The web site page below contains more details and "register" links to indicate your interest:

The Harwell Campus web site will be updated regularly with more details about the facilities that will be open and other exciting activities that will be taking place. Harwell hope you’ll be able to join them celebrating Harwell campus’ proud tradition of advancing science and technology, which continues with a vast range of pioneering work currently taking place.

TRANSPORT TO THE HARWELL CAMPUS ... MAKE SURE YOU EMAIL CERI IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THE READING COACH ....

The Thames Valley Branch of the British Science Association are providing subsidised coach transport to bring you the science action in the company of fellow science fans and inquisitive minds.

The coach will leave from Reading main train station at 10 am on Saturday 11th July and then depart Harwell Campus at 2pm with expected arrival at Reading by 3pm, for just £5 per person. If you would like join me on this transport to Harwell, I will be catching the 9:07 train from Basingstoke to Reading to join the coach.

Unfortunately we didn't have enough people wanting to share transport from Basingstoke to cover the cost of our own coach or minibus. To attend the open day please register here:
