Former home of Victorian engineer, Lord Armstrong, and the first home in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity, the Cragside NT property is truly a magical place, also boasting a large estate with 40 miles of walks, and a 6-mile estate drive with various stopping off points. We get to stay on the estate, close to the visitor centre and overlooking the lake. The booking allows full admission to Cragside house itself, plus the whole estate and gardens.
The bunkhouse offers 16 beds in shared rooms with self-catering facilities and toilet/shower facilities across a small courtyard. Cost per person is likely to be in the region of £20-25 if all beds are taken, plus the cost of self-catering (and probably a meal out one evening). Please bring your own sleeping bag/bedding.
The weekend is mainly targeted at those wanting to explore the surrounding area on foot, and will include a couple of walks around Rothbury and in the nearby Simonside Hills, as well as getting to know the estate itself, with its rhododendrons, lakes and follies, but others are welcome to come and do their own thing and join us during the evenings - or even book B & B in Rothbury if you prefer a higher degree of comfort!
To secure your place in the bunkhouse, please forward £20 to Sylvia Arnold (cheques to Sylvia Revell) at 25 The Dell, Fixby, Huddersfield, HD2 2FD. Final details will be sent direct to those who have booked.
