You are invited to join Basingstoke IVC Science enthusiasts at a talk on "Ocean Circulation in a Changing Climate" to be delivered by Dr. Simon Boxall.
SUMMARY: Ocean circulation in a changing climate - how small changes make big differences. The oceans are vast, covering over 70% of the planet's surface and contains 14 (followed by 17 zeros) tonnes of water. Yet a small change of a fraction of a degree in temperature can reverse the way this gargantuan mass of water moves around our planet, effecting life on land as well as in the ocean itself.
SPEAKER: Dr. Simon Boxall is a senior lecturer in Oceanography at the University of Southampton, National Oceanography Centre (UK), and heads up the science on the Cape Farewell project (capefarewell.com).
He has worked on secondment for projects for UNESCO, The European Union Research Centre, The World Bank, The British Council, and European Space Agency over the years.
Simon has a responsibility for public understanding and has been involved in documentaries for C4, Sky, BBC, National Geographic and Discovery. He regularly appears on radio/ TV news and current affairs broadcasts, worldwide relating to a broad range of ocean, coastal and climate issues.
