THE FRIENDS OF JESUS HOSPITAL, BRAY
STATEMENT 16th December 2009
JESUS HOSPITAL SAVED
The Friends of the Almshouse at Jesus Hospital welcome the announcement that, following their campaign, the Fishmongers’ Company is in advanced discussions with a Berkshire based almshouse charity which is interested in maintaining the Jesus Hospital Almshouse as an almshouse in the Bray community. The Friends believe that the residents can now look forward to a secure future in their current home.
Jesus Hospital has provided comfortable almshouse housing for 400 years, and the local community mobilised to preserve these particular almshouses for current and future residents.
The Fishmongers’ Company has opened detailed discussions with the Donnington Hospital Trust, a 600 year old family foundation, based in Berkshire with a sound financial position and long experience of managing almshouses. The Friends have indicated that they are keen to support the Donnington Hospital Trust from the local community base.
Graham Barker, Chairman of the Save Jesus Hospital campaign said:
“We thank the Fishmongers’ Company for all their assistance and we are delighted they are in detailed discussions with The Donnington Hospital Trust. We believe this to be the best way forward for all concerned, especially for the current and future residents of Jesus Hospital.
“The Friends would like to thank all those who supported the campaign including Sir Michael Parkinson, the Royal Borough Council and the National Almshouse Association.”
