Norwich and Norfolk IVC

What is Norwich & Norfolk IVC?

Norwich & Norfolk IVC is a friendly and informal organisation for young people who enjoy participating in and organising a wide range of social, recreational and cultural activities. Most of our members are in their 20s and 30s. About half live in Norwich with the remainder living within about 25 miles of the city. The club exists purely to enhance the social life of its members - it has no affiliation to any political or religious body and has no commercial interests.

We are a friendly crowd - and are always looking for new people to join us!

What sort of people are members?

Most of our members would probably describe themselves as career people of one sort or another. A typical cross-section of our membership might include teachers, accountants, nurses, engineers, caterers, insurance administrators and retail managers. Just under half our members have degrees.

What can IVC give me?

The opportunity to meet people of similar ages in an informal relaxed atmosphere. It can give you the chance to try new hobbies, explore new interests, visit new places and make new friends.

What sort of events are held?

Cinema, theatre, restaurant visits, concerts (rock, pop and classical), parties, badminton, ten-pin bowling, swimming, camping, go-karting, quad biking, walks, boat trips, horse riding, medieval banquets, board games evenings, quiz nights, discos, barn dances, progressive meals (each course at a different member's house) barbecues, pub nights, holidays (skiing, canal boating, weekends at Center Parcs, short breaks abroad)......even a parachute jump!

What does IVC stand for?

IVC stands for Inter Varsity Club, but we refer to it by its initials now as the full name sounds a little old-fashioned.

How does it work?

There are approximately 46 IVCs throughout the UK. All are members of the national Association of Inter-Varsity Clubs which provides a means of communication, co-ordination and a central source of advice. Each club however is autonomous and they vary considerably in character and size (20 to 500 or more members). Our club has about 100 members.

All clubs operate along similar lines. There is a monthly bulletin distributed to all club members listing the activities planned by the members themselves for the month ahead. In our club these events are first entered in the diary which circulates at our weekly clubnights.

How do I join?

If you have read this far and would like to take things further, we would be very pleased to see you at one of our clubnights. On the 4th Wednesday in the month we meet at the Cannon Bar, Hotel Nelson, Prince of Wales Road, Norwich from 8.30pm. In the intervening weeks we meet in other pubs in or around Norwich. Details of all our clubnights are in our monthly bulletin.(Please ring the number below for a copy.)

Free trial!

It isn't necessary to commit yourself to joining immediately: prospective members can receive three of our monthly bulletins and come along to some events before they need to decide whether to join. Our current subscription is £22 which runs for 12 months from your date of joining.
