Boyn Hill a great part of Maidenhead
and not to be spoilt by the development of unsuitable buildings. The Church is a
landmark buiding for the area and sets the standard for any future public
buildings. The existing East Berkshire College Campus buildings were contructed
at a time when government buildings were not covered by local planning
applications. As a result organisations such as the Post Office build eyesores
all over England without regard for appearance or their location. And so did the
education authorities, witness the rather pleasant and apealing structure on
Boyn Avenue. Thankfully our councillors and planners can now rule on the
desirablity of buildings and their appearance. Sometimes of course they need
some assistance in understanding the impact of these structures and how good
design can make a big difference to the local
environment.
East Berkshire College's original
proposals were delayed by the change of status of Boyn Hill House to Graded
building and forced nature of the change of plans. However, they are now on
track to apply once again to the planners to demolish the old buildings and
begin new construction on the site.
